In addition to meeting the CHPS criteria the school also qualified for $28,502 in incentives though SDG&E’s Savings By Design program. The yearly energy savings this school will generate versus a T24 compliant school equates to annual energy savings of 129,886 kilowatt hours per year.

Through careful planning, Cajon Valley Middle School exceeded the California energy efficiency standards (Title 24) by 19.1 % for the gymnasium building and 24.2% for the classroom building. At least 75 percent of the construction waste was recycled rather than put into a land fill. In addition, the school promises to be a very comfortable place to learn and work. All classrooms, laboratories, and group studies have operable windows, for thermal control, and a direct line of sight to outside, which has been shown to contribute to better student performance. Each classroom is a separate thermal zone, with thermostat and lighting controls. Click here to learn more about this project.
