“It's been a privilege to participate in one of the first projects with a progressive District to incorporate ideas toward a sustainable environment and student performance. The experience and knowledge gained through this project will not only have a positive impact on future projects, but the futures of the students and community to whichever degree it might be.” Loi Thai WLC Architects, Inc.
“The sustanible features are well integrated into the architecture design from conceptual design stages. It takes a good team work, including designers, contractors, communities to reach the goal. The impact and influence to the society is not measurable. Every students at this school will become an advocate for sustaniable design.” Ying Wang, LAUSD Project Manager |
The school's energy performance is 30% better than Title 24 and it is located within walking distance for most students, near pubic transit, provides bike lanes and bike racks. It is a three-story building which minimizes footprints, most of which follow and east-west orientation. Daylighting was incorporated through light shelves, glazing and a daylight dimming system. Most spaces offer natural ventilation and the doors and windows have HVAC interconnects. Reclaimed water is used to irrigate the landscaping made up of native, drought-tolerant plants. An underground detention system reduces storm water run off.
