High Performance Features

School exceeds Title 24 (2001) by 20%; geothermal ground source heat pump system to heat and cool building, central boiler; low VOC materials and finishes; materials with high recycled content (steel frame, fly ash content concrete, etc.); dedicated recycling area; low-flow water fixtures; operable windows; stormwater controls and settling basins to promote ground water recharge; building bermed into sloped site to minimize visual impact and maximize thermal energy properties of the earth; native plants utilized; minimal earth relocation. The daylighting system uses a innovative integral inverted micro-blind system sandwiched between the window glazing layers.

Sensitive to mountain site, natural drainage, flora and fauna. This building will also serve as a teaching tool. Part of the structure will be exposed such as the pipes for the ground source systems, so students can feel the pipes at different temperatures of the supply and return lines. The building will be a valuable community resource.
