William "Bill" Orr, C.E.G.
Executive Director
William "Bill" Orr became the Executive Director of CHPS in July 2009 to transition CHPS from a regional organization to a national program. Bill is a leader in the high performance schools field and is dedicatedto making all schools better places to learn. During his tenure, CHPS has expanded regionally-based initiatives to more than a dozen states, and developed a more consistent, streamlined process for bringing high performance school resources to new states. Under his leadership, CHPS launched a
high performance product database, and the
Operations Report Card, a web-based benchmarking and continual improvement tool for existing schools.
Before coming to CHPS, Bill worked for the state of California for almost thirty years. For a majority of career in state government, Bill worked for the California Integrated Waste Management Board where he managed their Green Building and Environmentally Preferable Purchasing programs from 2000-2007. Bill served on the national LEED for Schools committee and was inducted into the California Green Schools Hall of Fame in 2007. Bill is a registered Engineering Geologist in California. On weekends, he enjoys
