    Purpose

The Green Apple Awards recognize leadership in progressing, promoting and/or implementing high performance school issues.

    Schedule

The Green Apple Awards are an annual awards program put on by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) in conjunction with the CHPS annual conference, Greentools for Healthy Schools. Awards are presented during a special ceremony at Greentools.

CHPS Team (offered 2007 and 2009) - Award for excellence in team work to build and operate high performance schools.

CHPS Project (offered 2007 and 2009) - Award for excellence in high performance school design and construction.

CHPS Champion (offered 2007, 2008 and 2009; topics for award may vary) - Award for excellence in progressing, promoting and/or implementing high performance school issues.

    2008 Green Apple Awards Topics

In 2008, the CHPS Champion Award will be given out for work in three categories (which correspond to the Greentools 2008 theme). Champions should be advancing high performance schools in the following areas:

Greenhouse gases and climate change
Climate change is undoubtedly on of the largest issues facing our world, and school facilities play an enormous part in both contributing to green house gases emissions and also represent the opportunity to effect large-scale change. CHPS Champions in this category should be contributing to greenhouse gas reduction in the school community.

High Performance School Policy
Policy can come in a variety of forms, be it local, district, state or nationwide policy. CHPS Champions in this category will be contributing to policies of any kind that promote high performance schools.

Existing Schools
The operation and maintenance of high performance existing schools is vital if we are to truly implement high performance schools for all children. CHPS Champions in this category should be contributing to the high performance operation and maintenance of these existing schools.
