Following on the heels of our 2nd session, this session will focus on another way to ensure good indoor air quality and a safe indoor environment. Our panelists will have a conversation about the chemistry of cleaning, what makes for safe and effective products, the standards that govern healthy cleaning, and practical steps school personnel can take to establish the best cleaning practices.

Scot Case is Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability at the National Retail Federation. In this role, he leads NRF’s Sustainability Council and supports retailer efforts to use their businesses to make the world a better place for everyone. Scot has focused on the intersection of business, environmental and social concerns since the mid-1990s. Scot founded EcoLogo, a certification program for products with reduced environmental impact.

Lynn Rose has worked for over 30 years in public and non-profit agencies and as a private consultant on environmental health and safety (EHS) and pollution prevention for the public sector and small businesses. Her emphasis is on prevention, including reducing hazards in schools and in the workplace, followed by safe management of hazards that cannot be eliminated. She has addressed hazards from building and maintenance materials, occupant activities, and hazardous waste sites. Lynn’s work utilizes an environmental systems management approach, a framework for comprehensively assessing and addressing EHS issues. She conducts needs assessments, reviews management systems, and conducts compliance gap analyses, conducts building assessments, and employee and occupant surveys, etc. She co-wrote the guidebook, Infection Control Handbook for Schools 2021. https://www.informedgreensolutions.org/cleaning-for-healthier-schools-infection-control-handbook

Steve Ashkin is an entrepreneur, author, speaker and a leader of the Green Cleaning Movement where he is often thought of as the “Father of Green Cleaning.” Currently he serves as President of The Ashkin Group, Executive Director of the Green Cleaning Network, co-founder of Green Cleaning University and CEO of Sustainability Dashboard Tools, LLC – all of which play important roles in his efforts to move the global cleaning industry from green to sustainable.

Ken Wertz is the Executive Director for the Massachusetts Facilities Administrators Association (MFAA) and the former Director of Maintenance and Operations for the Sharon Public Schools in Sharon, MA. He also serves on the Massachusetts School Building Authority’s (MSBA) Designer Selection Panel and on the Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Reopening Site Support Team.
