Albany (CA) HS addition is CHPS Designed, all electric and zero energy ready

Albany (CA) High School has earned CHPS Designed status for its spectacular addition that is electrically powered and Net-Zero Energy ready.

Part of the Albany Unified School District. the 10,900 square foot, two-story classroom building adds eight large, modern classrooms to the school, including a double-high Design+Build Workshop.

California School scores big with CHPS Verified certification

Congratulations to Albany Middle School (Calif.) for earning CHPS Verified certification over the summer of 2020.

Located at 601 San Gabriel Avenue in Albany, Calif., the Annex, which opened in June 2019, was designed by SVA Architects and built by Rodan Builders, Inc.  Verification by the CHPS program demonstrates that SVA’s design for Albany Middle School has satisfied one of the strictest standards for green school design, a benchmark only a small percentage of schools have met.

NYC School earns CHPS Verified recognition

Congratulations to the Friends Seminary in New York City for becoming a CHPS Verified School! The project, which included an upper story addition and minor renovations to existing spaces, achieved 97 points--exceeding the required threshold by 12 points. In addition to earning all the prerequisites, the school is designed to be 30% more energy efficient than required, demonstrates a commitment to ongoing high performance learning environments, showed excellence in managing waste generated during construction, and takes the quality of the indoor environment seriously.

CHPS Releases Highly-Anticipated 2019 Core Criteria 3.0

Today the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) released its highly-anticipated K-12 school-focused CHPS 2019 Core Criteria 3.0. The third edition builds upon the CHPS 2014 Core Criteria. It incorporates recent developments in construction and building materials technology and adds additional credits addressing lowering school buildings’ carbon footprint through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and promoting resiliency to climate change.
