Congratulations to McNair Upper Elementary School in Herndon, Va., for earning CHPS Designed status in June.

The new school was designed by Samaha Associates for a student capacity of 750 and to serve as a site adaptable, multi-story prototype school design in response to the decreased availability of large parcels of suitable land for school construction in the Fairfax County Public Schools district.

After undergoing a rigorous design and construction process, the project earned 50 points under the VA-CHPS 2011 criteria program, exceeding the 40 points required for a new building on an existing campus.
