CHPS is changing the way we design, build, and operate K-12 schools!

The CHPS Criteria can help your school become energy, water, and material efficient, well-lit, thermally comfortable, acoustically sound, safe, healthy, and easy to operate. For those seeking recognition for building to CHPS Standards, we provide several different assessment tools for high performance school projects. Projects using these tools can be recognized as achieving high performance status. For new construction, new buildings, and major modernizations, CHPS provides two recognition programs: CHPS Verified and CHPS Designed. A third recognition program, CHPS PreFAB, is available for prefabricated modular classrooms.

If you have a new project to register in CHPS Designed or CHPS Verified, click the button below to go to the project application form.

CHPS Verified™ and CHPS Verified Leader

CHPS Verified provides an independent review of projects, using the CHPS Criteria, to assess their high performance status. Projects that meet minimum certification receive a CHPS plaque, letter, and CHPS Verified Logo. CHPS Verified Leader provides a second, higher level of recognition for school projects that perform well beyond minimum eligibility requirements.

CHPS Designed

CHPS Designed is a hybrid of self-certification and limited CHPS review. Projects use the same criteria and point scale as CHPS Verified to design and construct healthy high performance schools. CHPS Designed projects receive a small plaque and use of the CHPS Designed logo.

CHPS PreFAB™ - ARCHIVED

The CHPS PreFAB Program provides a streamlined process for pre-approving prefabricated modular classroom models that meet the CHPS Criteria rating system for high performance schools.

Criteria Editions Available for Registration and Verification

Criteria editions are either open for registration (effective), closed for registration but open for verification (closed), or closed for both registration and verification (sunset). As we update our criteria, we phase out the former editions by allowing for a short concurrency period where teams can register under either edition.

Sunset dates are established when an updated edition becomes effective and take into consideration the queue of registered projects. If a project will not be complete for verification by the sunset date, notify CHPS immediately so we can work out an arrangement.
