Salas O’Brien steps up as Minor Renovations sponsor

The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) is happy to announce another major player has agreed to take on a leadership role in the development of its Minor Renovations Program.

Engineering and consulting firm Salas O’Brien has signed on as a Visionary-level sponsor for this new program, which was launched in August 2023 alongside government partner Sourcewell. In addition to its financial support, Salas O’Brien will have a seat on the Steering Committee and play a critical role in shaping the MR Program.

The program is designed to help schools across the country complete smaller but just-as-critical renovation projects according to interdisciplinary best practices that ensure all students have access to healthy learning environments.

“Salas O’Brien is proud to support the CHPS Minor Renovations Program and we applaud them for their vision and leadership,” said Salas O’Brien Principal, Sean Holder, PE. “The design and performance of learning environments directly influence students’ abilities to learn and advance, with these ‘minor’ updates adding up to big impacts. We are excited for this opportunity to collaborate with the best in the industry to bring positive and lasting changes to k-12 schools across the country.”

The firm has been involved with numerous CHPS school projects, including Cypress (TX) Park High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District. CY-Fair ISD is one of two (LAUSD) major districts that have committed to participate in the program.

“It's really exciting to have national engineering firm Salas O’Brien on board,” said CHPS Executive Director Craig Schiller. “They have worked on leading projects such as CHPS and net zero energy schools across the country. Their insight will be invaluable to create a national standard for school modernization projects.”

Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) signed on as a Visionary-level sponsor earlier this month, bringing its expertise in healthy school design and extensive experience with CHPS projects to the table.
