Tarkett brings flooring expertise to new program

The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) has hit another important milestone in the development of its new Minor Renovations Program.

Flooring giant Tarkett has stepped up as a Visionary-level sponsor for this new program, which was launched in August 2023 alongside government partner Sourcewell. In addition to its financial support, Tarkett's participation will initiate the program's first pilot school project type: flooring.

The program is designed to create national project standards to help schools across the country complete smaller but just-as-critical renovation projects according to interdisciplinary best practices that ensure all students have access to healthy learning environments.

“We don't know what the outcome of this initiative is going to be. But we believe that collaboratively developed school modernization standards for any project are needed, will support districts in obtaining the best learning environments, and ultimately, will benefit the students,” said John Sumlin, Vice President for Strategic Educational Accounts and secretary of CHPS’ Executive Board. “We believe CHPS is the right organization to spearhead this effort, and Tarkett is excited to be the first flooring manufacturer sponsor initiating the Flooring Working Group."

Tarkett is a longtime CHPS member and supporter of its mission to foster healthy learning environments.

“It's no surprise that Tarkett has stepped up to the occasion again,” said CHPS Executive Director Craig Schiller. “Their dedication to our mission, and their expertise in an area critical to healthy schools, will go a long way towards the success of this new program.”

Tarkett joins designer Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) and engineering firm Salas O’Brien as Visionary-level sponsors. Los Angeles Unified and Cypress-Fairbanks (TX) Independent school districts have committed to participate in the development of the program, and we are seeking more.

If you’re interested in joining these great firms as a sponsor or partner, you can find out more about this new program and view a recording of an introductory webinar by visiting our Minor Renovations webpage. You can also email us at info@chps.net.
